Feedback for Ivanov

Filed under: Past Productions — admin @ 1:06 pm

Here is some completely unsolicited feedback we have gotten from audience for Miscreant’s production of Ivanov.

There are only 5 performances left!  Friday at 8 PM and Saturday and Sunday at 3 and 8 PM.  We hope you make plans to see it.

“Hello, yes i received my ticket thanks! It was a great show.”

“I wanted to say again how very much I enjoyed the show: I haven’t been
able to stop thinking about it since I saw it!  I see a lot of theatre: I was really
very moved.  Thank you.”

“I was one of the people in attendance at last Friday’s performance of Ivanov. I
wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed the performance.”

“I was delighted by the play, by the production, by the acting and particularly by
being immersed in the world of the play just a few feet (and even just two seats, at
times) away from me. I’ve spent hundreds (maybe now even more than a thousand??!!)
of evenings in the theater, and this one was really special. Thanks for such a great
show.”

“the play was engaging. great cast, great direction.”

Miscreant Theatre is dedicated to bringing out the young voices of independent theater in our community.  By creating alliances with other emerging companies we believe we can create a movement in NYC to change the ways audiences view indie theater and expand those audiences to enlarge our current supporters.  Tribes of Indie Theater will be an annual benefit to bring together supporters and guests for an evening of conversation and entertainment, but more importantly, a celebration of theater in the spirit of collaboration and generosity.

Our premiere annual fundraiser “Tribes of Indie Theater” kicks off June 1st at ELMO restaurant in Manhattan with our friends at Apothecary Theatre Company. Please join us for a one-night only benefit celebrating independent theater by joining forces with an exceptionally talented emerging company.

Tickets are priced at only $25 each (general admission).  The evening includes an open bar and food and two short performances by each respective company.  Tickets are on sale now at Smarttix.com For directions to the restaurant (located in the heart of NYC), please visit The Apothecary Theatre website at www.apothecarytheatrecompany.org.

Casting

Auditioning is such an interesting/odd part of this business. Its a skill in its own right that is not always reflective of ones ability/potential as an actor.  I’m kind of an odd duck when it comes to auditioning; I like it.

So,  I was really looking forward to going into casting for Ivanov.  That being said, it was a new experience for me.  It’s not often that I get to sit on the other side of the table; usually I’m the one coming in to audition.  But for the past two weeks I’ve had the pleasure to sit and watch one fine actor after another come in and share with us.  I learned so much over those two weeks.  Not only as an actor, but as a storyteller and an adapter.

Allison Estrin, our Casting Director, and Brad were able to put together a really dynamic group of actors for us to see.  The fact that we are a young company mounting its second production, and that we were able to see such fine talent time and again was mind blowing.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to come in.  It has been a magical start to the production.

Miscreant announces Ivanov!

Starting June 10th, Miscreant will once again turn theatre on it’s head. We are now fully cast; we are fully loaded; we are ready to fire. Fire we will; with a new adaptation of Chekhov’s Ivanov. Originally, Anton (Can I call him Anton? I feel like we just barely met) wrote this play in two weeks; yet it is proclaimed as “Chekhov’s Great Drama”. We are going to tear this play down to it’s most base level. Why does Ivanov kill himself at the play’s conclusion? We all know the end, but none of us know the start or middle. Miscreant will fill in the gaps. Ivanov is a tale of one mans ennui; coupled with sexual depravation. After all, once you have reached the brink of despair, what else is left?
